Affiliate disclosure

In plain English: how this site makes money, and why that does not change what we recommend.

How it works

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale. The price you pay is exactly the same as it would be if you had gone to the retailer directly — the commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not your pocket.

Every affiliate link on this site is marked. Buy buttons carry an #ad label and a link back to this page, immediately beneath the button rather than buried at the foot of the article. Outbound commercial links use rel="sponsored nofollow", which is how search engines are told a link is commercial.

Amazon Associates statement

Dander Down is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Amazon is currently the only retailer we have an affiliate relationship with. If that changes we will say so here.

Why this does not change the rankings

Saying “commission does not influence our recommendations” is easy and unfalsifiable, so here is the mechanism instead.

Every ranking input on this site is a public figure compiled before any link exists: certified Clean Air Delivery Rate from AHAM’s directory or EPA’s ENERGY STAR database, certified room size, certified annual energy use, measured ozone emissions, and the register’s own filter classification. The criteria are written out on How We Pick, and because every figure links to its source you can check our conclusions against the same evidence we used.

A machine we rank first is ranked first because of those numbers. Several pages here recommend against popular, high-commission units, and several include an explicit “skip this one” entry — a roundup where everything is recommended is an advertisement.

What we do not accept

  • Free products, review samples or loans
  • Sponsored placements or paid inclusion in any roundup
  • Payment to change, add or remove a ranking
  • Guest posts or paid link insertions

Because we do not test units there is no sample to be sent, which removes the usual channel for manufacturer influence entirely. The full editorial policy.

About prices

No price is ever written into an article on this site. Prices shown come only from a live data feed and are stamped with the date they were checked; where no current price is available the button reads “Check price on Amazon” rather than showing a stale number. Prices change constantly and a figure typed into an article is wrong within days.
