Dander Down compares air purifiers for pet allergies and allergy households using numbers that somebody other than the manufacturer produced. It launched in 2026.

Scooter M.. I got interested in air purifiers the way most people do: something in the house was making someone sneeze. What I found was a category where almost every published number comes from the company selling the machine. So I started working from the registries instead — AHAM's certification directory and the ENERGY STAR database — because those numbers were produced by somebody with no stake in the sale, and because anyone reading this can look them up and check my work.

That is the whole biography, and the things it does not say are deliberate. There is no claim of expertise, no professional credential, no stated number of years, and no lab coat. None of those would be true, and in a category where the competition leads with a Ph.D. Chief Scientist and an in-house test facility, borrowing that language would be both a lie and the easiest lie in the world to catch.

We have not tested any of the machines on this site. We do not own them, and there is no test chamber behind this page.

What there is:

• Certified Clean Air Delivery Rate, compiled from AHAM’s public directory and EPA’s ENERGY STAR database — figures verified by an independent laboratory under ANSI/AHAM Standard AC-1.
• AHAM’s published sizing rule, applied out loud with the ceiling-height assumption made explicit rather than quietly dropped.
• Running cost computed from certified annual energy use at a stated electricity rate, so you can substitute your own.
• Ionizer status and measured ozone read off the register rather than the box, on every product card.
• Primary sources cited for anything touching health — the EPA, published research, and the certification bodies themselves.

Every input is public. You can check any figure on this site in about a minute, and you can reach a different conclusion from the same evidence — which is not something a testing claim allows you to do. The method in full, including where it runs out.

Recorded here so you can hold us to it. Nothing on this site will ever say that we tested a unit, owned one, measured anything ourselves, run a lab, or hold a credential. No “medically reviewed by”, no expert panel, no years of experience. If you ever find language of that kind here, it is an error and we would like to know about it.
